The Client: Stryke Education
Stryke Education is on a mission to change the fitness industry’s alarming dropout rate. With nearly 80% of personal trainers leaving the industry within six months of becoming qualified, Stryke provides continued education and business guidance to help trainers thrive, not just survive.
One of their flagship strategies — converting new gym members into personal training clients — had clear potential, but lacked automation. The manual, error-prone handoff between gym staff and trainers left many leads untapped. That’s where StrykeCal came in.
The Opportunity
StrykeCal began as a simple idea: automate the process of booking new gym members in for a free or introductory personal training consult. At most gyms, this process was entirely manual — a staff member would collect member details, pass them on to a trainer, and hope the trainer followed up.
It was inefficient, inconsistent, and unsustainable at scale. Worse, it left Personal Trainers with the burden of cold-calling members and no way to ensure fair distribution of leads.
Stryke Education saw an opportunity to productise this process and make it a seamless, automated part of their business education offering.
Our Solution
Originally envisioned as an integration layer between gym CRM systems and trainer calendars, StrykeCal quickly evolved into a standalone booking platform due to limitations in available APIs.
Alto Apto designed and delivered the entire MVP, including:
- A lightweight, browser-based booking interface
- Direct and automated scheduling into a Personal Trainer’s Google Calendar
- SMS confirmations and 24-hour reminders for new gym members
- The option for members to book with a specific trainer or be auto-matched based on time availability
Despite being decoupled from individual gym CRMs, the platform still reflects trainer and gym-specific branding in its messages and workflows. It brings to life one of the core marketing strategies taught by Stryke Education — in a completely hands-off, repeatable format.
Built over six months in close collaboration with Stryke’s founder, the project was designed with clear architectural flexibility for future expansion into a full web app.
Results & Impact
StrykeCal is now an elegant and essential part of the member onboarding journey:
- New gym members are instantly able to book in, improving engagement and retention
- Personal Trainers receive fair, timely lead distribution without chasing or follow-up
- Gyms benefit from increased trainer retention and more stable revenue streams
